The day before the Big Day

The countdown is almost over: just one day remains before Donald Trump is inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States. On Monday, January 20, 2025, Capitol Hill will host this historic event, marking the beginning of his second term. Here’s everything you need to know about the ceremony and its traditions.

When and where does the inauguration take place?

The U.S. presidential inauguration is held every four years on January 20, unless it falls on a Sunday, in which case it is moved to January 21. This year, with January 20 falling on a Monday, the ceremony will take place as scheduled at Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Thousands of spectators, international leaders, and notable figures are expected to attend.

The Presidential oath of office

The heart of the inauguration is the swearing-in ceremony, where the President-elect officially assumes office by reciting the oath:
"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."
Following the oath, the President will deliver the inaugural address, outlining his vision for the nation.

The inaugural parade

After the swearing-in, the celebration continues with the traditional inaugural parade. The President and Vice President, accompanied by their spouses, will parade through Washington, greeting the crowd and reviewing military troops. The parade concludes with the President's arrival at the White House, symbolizing the official transfer of power.

A unique twist: an indoor ceremony

Due to Washington’s harsh winter temperatures, parts of this year’s inauguration will take place indoors to ensure comfort and safety for attendees. Despite this adjustment, the event will retain its historical significance and symbolism.

International guests: Giorgia Meloni in Washington

Among the notable international attendees is Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, whose presence underscores the importance of transatlantic relations between Italy and the United States. Her visit will provide an opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties in an increasingly interconnected global context.

A moment of great significance

Trump’s inauguration represents a crucial event not only for the United States but also for the global geopolitical landscape. It symbolizes the strength of American democracy and the peaceful transfer of power.

When I launched this blog last September , the inauguration seemed far away. Now, we stand on the eve of an event I’ll cover alongside you.

Stay tuned tomorrow for updates on the big day itself, Thank you for your continued support!
